FAQ – Bet App LLC

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about how Bet App works, how your money is handled, and what makes this different from just telling yourself you’ll do it.

The Basics
Bet App is a personal accountability tool that uses real financial stakes to help you follow through on your goals. You pick a commitment and put money on the line — you save a card, but nothing is charged or held. You’re only charged if, at the end of your commitment period, you report that you didn’t follow through — daily check-ins never charge you. If you keep your word, you’re never charged a cent. It’s based on behavioral economics research showing that people are significantly more likely to achieve their goals when they have money at stake.
Setting a goal costs you nothing if you quit. Bet App makes quitting expensive. Behavioral economics research has consistently shown that financial commitment devices dramatically increase follow-through rates. When your own money is on the line, procrastination disappears and you actually do the thing. It’s the difference between saying “I should go to the gym” and having $200 riding on it.
No. Gambling involves an element of chance — playing odds on an outcome you can’t control. Bet App is the opposite: you control the outcome entirely through your own actions. There are no odds, no dice, no house edge. It’s a personal commitment device, a concept studied extensively by behavioral economists. You’re not playing a game of chance; you’re making a promise to yourself and backing it with real consequences.
Bet App offers commitment categories including Losing Weight, Digital Detox, Financial Goals, Diet & Fitness, Meditation, Healthy Sleep, Building a Skill, Committing to a Hobby, and more. There’s also a Custom Goal option that lets you define any personal commitment you want. If you can honestly assess whether you did it, you can bet on it.
Research on habit formation suggests that 21 days is, on average, the most effective minimum duration for establishing a new behavioral pattern. While longer durations can further strengthen a habit, 21 days is widely regarded as the threshold where a repeated action starts to feel automatic rather than forced. That’s why our longest commitment option is 21 days — it’s long enough to build real momentum and establish a habit, but short enough to feel achievable. We also offer 1-week and 2-week options, as well as custom durations, for goals where a shorter push is all you need. For users who want to commit to longer goals, simply create another commitment at the end of each 21-day period — stacking wins builds serious momentum.
Money & Payments
Stakes range from $5 to $5,000. New users start at Tier 1 with a $500 maximum across all active commitments. Once you’ve completed $100 or more in successful Stakes, you unlock Tier 2, which raises your limit to $5,000. This progression system helps you build confidence with smaller wins before pursuing bigger goals. The amount should be meaningful enough to motivate you — what would actually sting if you lost it?
Your money is never charged upfront, and nothing is held. When you create a commitment, we simply save your card on file — no charge, no pending amount, nothing reserved. If you keep your commitment, your card is never touched. The only time you’re charged is if you report that you faltered: we ask you to confirm, and only then is the Stake charged to your saved card. So the only money we ever collect comes from someone who set a goal, fell short, and reported that at the end of their commitment period — never from a daily check-in.
No. There are no processing fees, subscription fees, or hidden charges. If you keep your commitment, you pay nothing. Bet App only makes money from Stakes that are forfeited by users who honestly report at the end of their commitment period that they didn’t follow through.
Yes. All payment processing is handled by a trusted, PCI-compliant third-party payment processor. Bet App never sees or stores your full card number — your payment details go directly to the processor’s secure infrastructure.
You can save a credit or debit card directly, or link a card through Apple Pay or Google Pay. Whatever you choose is saved on file the same way — nothing is charged and nothing is held — and is only charged if you report you faltered. On supported devices, charges (and tips) are confirmed with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, so nothing is ever charged without your explicit OK.
Yes. You can cancel any active commitment at any time. Your card is never charged — nothing was ever held to release. Cancelled commitments don’t count toward your stats or tier progression. That said, the whole point is to commit — cancelling too easily defeats the purpose of putting skin in the game.
Your Stake goes to support Bet App — and only if you honestly report at the end of the commitment period that you didn’t follow through. This is true in Commit Together groups too: every member’s Stake is their own. No money ever moves between friends.
Tipping is completely optional — you’re never required to tip, and you’re never charged just to use the app. A tip is a voluntary way to support the team behind Bet App and help keep it running and growing. It’s not a purchase: it unlocks no features and changes nothing about your commitments or stakes. Tips are charged when you give them, are never held, and are non-refundable.
How It Works
You report your own results. There’s no GPS tracking, no photo verification, and no surveillance. Bet App runs on an honor system — and that’s by design, not by limitation. The app’s entire power as a tool for achieving your goals comes from the fact that you could genuinely lose your money if you falter. The moment you decide you’d just lie to avoid being charged, the app stops working for you. A lost Stake can have the power to strengthen your next commitment, because you’re telling yourself you take your goals seriously enough to not cheat yourself.
They could. But then why download the app? The only people who benefit from Bet App are the ones who commit to honesty. If you know you’ll just lie to avoid being charged, there are no real stakes, no motivation, and no reason to use the app in the first place. The people who use Bet App are the ones who are genuinely tired of letting themselves off the hook. They want something that actually holds them accountable — and that only works if you take it seriously. The Stake isn’t a punishment; it’s the fuel that makes you follow through.
You’ll receive a prompt to submit your final result: “I Stayed Committed” or “I Faltered.” You have 7 days after the end of your commitment period to report your result. If you kept your commitment, you’re never charged. If you reported as faltered at the end of your commitment period, you confirm and the Stake is charged to your saved card.
If you don’t report within the 7-day window, the commitment is marked as “Forfeited” and you are not charged — we never charge without your own report that you fell short. We’ll send you reminders during this window, but the system is designed to err on the side of not charging you. We’d rather you come back and try again than feel burned by an accidental charge.
Each day during your commitment, you can log whether you stayed committed or faltered that day. This builds a visual progress grid and tracks your streak. Daily check-ins are optional and don’t affect your final result — only your end-of-period report determines whether you’re charged. But they matter: the act of checking in each day keeps your commitment front of mind and reinforces the habit you’re building. Users who check in consistently are far more likely to follow through on their goals.
Up to 5 active commitments at a time. This keeps you focused. Spreading yourself too thin across too many goals at once is a recipe for failure — the limit is there to protect your success rate, not restrict you.
Commit Together turns a goal into a group effort. When you create a commitment, you can invite connected friends to join it. Each friend who accepts sets their own Stake — any amount they choose — on the same goal for the same days, and everyone starts together. Your group sees each other’s daily check-ins and hears when someone succeeds, so nobody wants to be the one who taps out. Every Stake stays personal: keep your commitment and you’re never charged, exactly like a solo commitment. No money ever moves between friends.
An Anchor is one person you can optionally choose to confirm, at the end, whether you followed through — a real-life witness for your commitment. You invite them by email, and they decide whether to accept and how closely they follow along. An Anchor never receives any money and never pays anything, and they can never charge you: their confirmation can only affect the timing of a possible charge, never create one when you report you kept your word, and never stop one once you report that you faltered. The only thing that ever charges you is your own honest report that you faltered. If you and your Anchor disagree about the outcome, each of you can submit a final answer with a short explanation that is shared with the other person, and your own answer is what settles it.
Go Serious
Go Serious is an optional upgrade that turns a commitment into a day-by-day plan. Instead of just one overall goal, you define a specific goal for each day and check them off as you go. Spelling out exactly what you’ll do each day makes you significantly more likely to follow through — it’s an accountability boost on top of your Stake.
Go Serious is a one-time $0.99 purchase for that commitment, made through the Apple App Store or Google Play — not your saved card. It’s completely separate from your Stake and doesn’t change how stakes work: your Stake is still only ever charged if you report you faltered. Go Serious is entirely optional, and you can use Bet App fully without it.
Yes. Go Serious includes a library of plans — both ones we’ve put together and ones other users have chosen to share — that you can browse by goal type and length, upvote, save as favorites, and use. Your own plans stay private unless you choose to share them. Plans are general suggestions to help you organize your goal, not professional, medical, or financial advice — use your own judgment and do only what’s right for you.
In Your Corner
In Your Corner is your personal support team — coaches, mentors, teachers, friends, or family who help keep you accountable. You add them once (name and email), they confirm by email, and from then on you can choose to include them on any commitment you create. Goals are easier when someone has your back.
Only what you choose, and only for commitments where you include them. There are two options: a nudge email if you fall behind on daily check-ins (sent at every 3rd missed check-in, asking them to encourage you), and a congratulations email when you successfully complete your goal. Each person receives their own individual email — supporters are never grouped or copied on each other’s messages.
Yes, always. When you add someone, they get a single invitation email explaining what you’re asking. Nothing is ever sent to them unless they confirm. If they decline or simply don’t respond, they receive no updates. Once they confirm, they’re covered for any future commitment you include them on — no repeated invitations.
No. Supporters are never told about falters, charges, cancellations, or forfeits. They only hear two things: “your person could use a nudge” (missed check-ins, with no judgment attached) and “your person succeeded.” What happens with your Stake stays between you and the app.
A day where you didn’t log any check-in at all. Honestly logging a “faltered” day still counts as checking in — the nudge email is about disappearing, not about struggling. You’ll always get a warning notification before your supporters are emailed, so a quick check-in keeps everything between you and the app.
Every email a supporter receives includes an unsubscribe link that stops all Bet App support emails to their address. The confirmation page includes a “Restore my emails” link, so a mistaken click can be undone instantly. You can also remove anyone from your team at any time, which immediately stops their notifications. If someone declined your invitation by mistake, just remove them from your team and add them again — they’ll receive a fresh invitation. And if they unsubscribed a while ago and want back in, they can contact service@betonyouapp.com.
Account & Security
Bet App is available to US residents aged 18 and older. You’ll need to verify both your email address and a US phone number during signup.
Your account is protected by email verification, phone verification, and a strong password requirement (uppercase, lowercase, number, and special character). You can optionally enable two-factor authentication via SMS or an authenticator app for additional security. Sensitive account changes like updating your email, phone number, or disabling 2FA require password re-entry.
Yes, and it’s optional. If you add a profile picture, it’s visible only to people you’re connected with as accepted friends. Keep it appropriate — connected friends can report a picture, and a reported picture is removed automatically.
Yes. Go to Profile > Account and tap Email or Phone. You’ll need to enter your password first, then verify the new email or phone number with a code. This ensures nobody can change your contact information without knowing your password.
Yes. Go to your Profile and tap “Delete Account.” Your personally identifiable information is anonymized immediately. We retain anonymized commitment and transaction records for legal and regulatory purposes, but they can no longer be connected to your identity. If you want a copy of your data before deleting, use the “Request My Data” button in your Profile first.
We collect your name, email, phone number, commitment details, and basic device information. We do not sell your data to anyone. You can request a full export of all your data at any time by tapping “Request My Data” in your Profile — it downloads as a JSON file you can save or share. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
No. We only send SMS messages for account verification and two-factor authentication codes. We will never send marketing messages, promotional offers, or sell your phone number. These are one-time transactional messages only.
Tiers & Progression
Bet App has two tiers. Tier 1 (new users) lets you Stake up to $500 total across all active commitments. Tier 2 unlocks after you’ve successfully completed $100 or more in total Stakes, raising your limit to $5,000. The idea is simple: small successes build the foundation for bigger goals. Prove to yourself you can follow through on smaller stakes first.
Keep your commitments. Once your total successful Stake amount reaches $100 or more, Tier 2 unlocks automatically. For example, completing two $50 commitments, or four $25 commitments, or any combination that adds up to $100. You’ll see a progress bar on the Stake screen tracking how close you are, and a celebration when you unlock it.
Troubleshooting
For email codes, check your spam or junk folder. The email comes from no-reply@betonyouapp.com. For SMS codes, make sure you entered a valid US phone number with the correct 10 digits. You can tap “Resend Code” after 60 seconds. If you still don’t receive it, contact us at service@betonyouapp.com.
On the sign-in screen, tap “Forgot password?” We’ll email a verification code to your account’s email address; enter it and choose a new password. The code expires after a short time for security, and your new password must meet the same strength requirements as signup (uppercase, lowercase, number, and special character).
If you believe a charge was made in error, please contact us at service@betonyouapp.com with your account email and details about the commitment in question. We take every report seriously and will work with you to resolve the issue.
Account suspensions are a standard security measure triggered when a payment dispute is detected on a charge. This is an automated process that helps us protect the integrity of the platform for all users. If you believe your account was suspended in error, please contact us at service@betonyouapp.com and we’ll look into it.
